Barcode generator

EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128 and Code 39, ready to print.

How it works

Make a barcode in seconds

Type a number or text, pick the barcode type and download a crisp barcode for labels, inventory, tickets or product packaging. The check digit for EAN-13 and UPC-A is worked out for you.

Barcodes are drawn in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded. Download an SVG for print, where it stays sharp at any size, or a PNG up to 2048 px wide.

How to create a barcode

  1. Pick the barcode type

Choose Code 128 for any text, EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail products, or Code 39 for older scanners and ID badges.

  2. Enter the data

Type the value. For EAN-13 enter 12 digits and for UPC-A 11 digits; the last check digit is added automatically.

  3. Download

Download SVG for print or PNG for documents, and test it with a scanner or phone before printing many.

Supported barcode types

  • Code 128

Encodes any letters, numbers and symbols compactly. The usual choice for shipping labels, inventory and internal use.

  • EAN-13

The 13-digit barcode on retail products sold around the world. The check digit is calculated for you.

  • UPC-A

The 12-digit product barcode used in the United States and Canada.

  • Code 39

Letters A–Z, digits and a few symbols. Common on ID badges, older warehouse systems and in the automotive and defence industries.

Frequently asked questions

Is this barcode generator free?

Yes. Make as many barcodes as you like, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Can I use these barcodes on products I sell in shops?

You can print any EAN-13 or UPC-A number here, but shops expect numbers registered with GS1, the organisation that issues product codes. Get your company prefix from GS1, then generate the barcodes here.

Which barcode type should I use?

Use EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail products, Code 128 for shipping, inventory and anything with letters, and Code 39 only when an older system requires it.

What is a check digit?

The last digit of an EAN-13 or UPC-A code, calculated from the others so scanners can catch misreads. Enter the digits without it and it's added for you; if you enter it, it's checked.

What size should I print a barcode?

EAN-13 and UPC-A are designed around 37 × 26 mm and can be scaled from 80% to 200%. Keep the white space on both sides and print dark bars on a light background.
